Six Actions to Keep Children Safe around World Bank-Supported Projects: Recommendations to Address Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

An extensive set of tools to address risks and harms associated with child sexual exploitation and abuse in the World Bank’s global operations. These tools were developed as part of a four year partnership between the Bank and the Care and Protection of Children Learning Network at Columbia University, and furthered the Bank’s goal of addressing risks to children as part of its Environmental and Social Framework introduced in 2016.

Voices of Tigray: A Photovoice Project With Young People in Tigray, Ethiopia

Voices of Tigray is a photovoice project which involved young people in the Tigray region of Ethiopia in documenting their daily lives amidst the 2020-2022 war and shortly afterwards. Photovoice is a method of participatory research where participants are given cameras to take photographs, and then discuss or reflect to build a narrative. The war, in which government forces have been accused of an eliminationist agenda, caused severe disruption to routines, resulted in widespread school closures, and unfolded in the midst of the pandemic. I contributed background research on conditions in Tigray and created an accompanying webpage for dissemination of the project.

Venice Family Clinic Street Medicine Curriculum

Venice Family Clinic runs one of the nation’s most comprehensive street medicine programs — a discipline where doctors, nurses and housing support staff directly engage people experiencing homelessness where they are, in tents, on street corners, and on beaches. The Street Medicine Curriculum is an effort to formalize the knowledge imparted through the clinic’s training programs for residents, for access by both family medicine residents and the broader practice community.

Street Medicine Education Needs Assessment

As an early-career researcher I was brought on to assess the need for education and training at clinics in the Los Angeles area practicing street medicine. I interviewed and surveyed 15 clinicians in the region and participated in ride-alongs to learn more about how they practice over a three-month period, summarizing the findings in a report that helped direct the use of over $200,000 in grant funding from the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.
